How Much Does It Cost to Build a Website in Croatia
Website design prices in Croatia: market ranges in euros by type of site, yearly domain, hosting and maintenance costs, and hidden costs to watch for.
In this article
When you start collecting quotes for a website in Croatia, you quickly see prices ranging from 200 € to tens of thousands of euros. That gap makes sense once you know what sits behind the number. In this guide I walk through realistic market ranges for website design prices in Croatia by type of site, the yearly costs of a domain, hosting and maintenance, and the factors that decide the final price. At the end I show you how to work out whether the investment pays off for your business.
Website prices in Croatia by type of site
The ranges in the table are based on publicly listed price lists and guides from Croatian web studios and freelancers in 2025 and 2026. They are indicative market amounts for the build itself, excluding VAT and excluding yearly costs, which I cover separately.
| Type of website | Indicative build price | Typical timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Simple site or landing page (1 to 3 pages) | 300 to 800 € | 1 to 2 weeks |
| Small business website (5 to 10 pages) | 700 to 2,000 € | 2 to 5 weeks |
| Multilingual site for tourism or holiday rentals | 1,200 to 3,500 € | 3 to 6 weeks |
| Web shop | 1,500 to 5,000 € and up | 4 to 8 weeks |
| Custom development (portal, app, special features) | from 5,000 € | 2 to 4 months |
Simple site or landing page
This is a good choice for a tradesperson or service business that needs a clear introduction, contact details and a few reviews in one place. The cheapest offers, around 200 €, are usually a ready made template with your logo added. For 300 to 800 € you get a page built around one goal, most often a phone call or an enquiry.
Small business website
Most local businesses end up here: a home page, an about page, several service pages, a contact page and ideally a blog. A separate page for each service matters for Google, because each one can rank for its own search. That is why this range is so wide, from 700 to 2,000 €, depending on how many service pages you need and who writes the copy.
Multilingual site for tourism
Apartments, campsites, agencies and restaurants on the coast almost always need two to four languages and an enquiry form or a link to a booking calendar. Every extra language means translation, proofreading and separate SEO settings, so multilingual support usually adds 300 to 1,000 € to the base price on the market.
Web shop
The price of a web shop depends mostly on the number of products, payment and delivery options, and integration with stock or accounting software. A smaller WooCommerce or Shopify shop sits near the lower end of the range, while a shop with thousands of products and several languages easily goes above 5,000 €. I write more about it on the web shop design page.
Custom development
When you need a calculator, user accounts, a custom booking system or a connection to your own software, the build is planned as a development project. The price then starts at 5,000 € and depends on the number of features, so it is best to write down clearly what the site has to do first.
What the cost of building a website depends on
Two quotes for “a ten page website” can differ by a factor of three. The reason is almost always in these items:
- Number of pages. Every service page needs its own copy, layout and SEO settings, so each extra page raises the price.
- Custom design or template. A template is faster and cheaper, while a custom design reflects your brand more closely and guides visitors towards an enquiry. Custom design alone usually costs 500 to 2,000 € on the market.
- Who writes the content. Writing the copy yourself saves money, but it is often what slows a project down the most. Professional copywriting for a smaller site usually costs 200 to 500 €.
- Languages. Each language needs translation, proofreading and correct hreflang tags for Google.
- Integrations. Bookings, newsletters, chat, payments or a CRM connection usually add 100 to 500 € per integration.
- SEO foundations. A proper heading structure, meta descriptions, schema, fast loading and a good mobile layout separate a site that brings enquiries from a site that simply exists. I cover this in more detail under SEO optimisation.
- Speed. Optimised images, quality hosting and lightweight code directly affect your Google rankings and how long visitors stay.
- Maintenance. Someone has to update the system regularly, make backups and step in when something breaks.
Yearly costs: domain, hosting and website maintenance
The build is a one off cost, while these items come back every year. It is worth including them from the start so they do not surprise you.
Domain
Businesses registered in Croatia can get one .hr domain for free through CARNET under certain conditions. Additional .hr domains, as well as .com, usually cost 10 to 30 € a year.
Web hosting in Croatia
Web hosting for a small business website in Croatia usually costs 50 to 200 € a year. The cheapest plans at 25 to 30 € a year are enough for a very small site, but they tend to be too slow for heavier traffic or a web shop. When choosing, look at server speed, a data centre in Europe, automatic backups and support in a language you are comfortable with.
Website maintenance
Website maintenance on the market is usually billed as a monthly plan of 30 to 150 € or by the hour at 30 to 70 €. A plan typically includes system and plugin updates, backups, uptime monitoring and small content changes. For a WordPress site regular maintenance matters even more, because outdated plugins are a common reason sites get hacked.
Hidden costs to watch for
Most frustration starts when a cost appears only after the site is handed over. Before you sign a quote, check these items:
- Theme and plugin licences. Premium templates and plugins often have a yearly subscription of a few dozen euros that someone has to pay.
- Photos. Licensed stock photos or a professional photo shoot are rarely part of the base price.
- Hosting after the first year. Free hosting in year one usually turns into a regular price, so ask what it will be.
- Ownership of the site. Check that the domain is registered in your name and that you get access to the admin panel and hosting. Without that, switching providers later is hard.
- Changes after handover. Ask how many rounds of changes are included and what an hour of work costs after that.
- SEO and copy. If the quote does not mention meta descriptions, heading structure and speed, you will probably pay for them later once you notice Google is not showing your site.
How to judge whether it pays off
The easiest way to judge the price of a website is through the value of one new customer. Say you are a plumber and an average job brings you 150 € in profit. If a 1,500 € website brings just two new enquiries a month that turn into jobs, it pays for itself in five months and then keeps working for you for years.
For a hair salon the same maths looks different, because a regular client comes back several times a year. If she visits every six weeks and spends 40 € per visit, she is worth about 350 € a year to you. Three new regular clients from the website then cover the cost of the whole build within a year.
That is why a website needs SEO foundations and a clear path to a call or enquiry from day one. Revenue comes from visitors who find you on Google and can get in touch easily, and good design helps them do that. If you want to see how this fits with other marketing costs, read the article how much a marketing agency costs.
How to build a website without overpaying
Before you ask for quotes, write down three things: which services you want to present, who your customers are and what a visitor should do on the site. With that list, quotes are easier to compare because every provider prices the same scope. Also prepare photos, reviews and basic company details, since that shortens the build more than anything else.
How much a website costs with VRH Agency
I agree on the price after a free 30 minute call, because it depends on the scope: the number of pages, languages, integrations and who writes the content. Every site I build is fast, mobile friendly and has SEO foundations from day one, and I write the copy so it leads to a call or an enquiry. You can read more about how I work on the website design page and book a call through the contact page.
